Question on Interrupters and if like me, or like myself should be used

Hello I am sending off my statement of purpose for graduate school and I'm hoiping you can help me with this sentence. I am not sure if using "like myself" whould be appropriate or if it should be "like me". I am also not sure how many interrupters can be used and if the format used is grammaticaly correct. Your help would greatly be appreciated. Here is the sentence:

UCLA is shaped by motivated individuals who, like myself, and regardless of their past situations, strive to exceed common expectations.

Top answer

'Myself' is OK there, used as it is for emphasis, but where do you people find these words ('interrupters')? I suppose it is from theoretical linguistics. Do you mean commas ?

  • 'Myself' is OK there, used as it is for emphasis, but where do you people find these words ('interrupters')?
  • I suppose it is from theoretical linguistics.
  • Do you mean commas ?
  • Actually, there is no call for the phrase about situations: it is extraneous to the intent.
  • Therefore, you need no commas: UCLA is shaped by motivated individuals like myself who strive to exceed common expectations.
