Question on directions for subject and object

Hi teachers,
According to the sentence and the directions given, do I really need 'of the sentence' for 'b' and 'd', or it is optional?

Mrs. Anderson is giving Robert a cup of coffee.
a) Who is producing the action? / Who is the doer of the action? __________________.
b) Consequently the subject of the sentence is ____________________.
c) Who is receiving the action? / Who is the receiver of the action? ________________.
d) Consequently the object of the sentence is _____________________.

Thanks in advance.

Leaving the phrase is preferable, because B and D are asking for strictly grammatical functions while A and C are asking for semantic determinations.

Hi Mister Micawber,
Thank you for your reply. For once I had the same impression, though I would have never given that explanation to myself. It's a great one. Now it's crystal clear.
