Question on cause an effect result.

Hi teachers,

In the following sentence 'so' introduces a result, 'He couldn't find his pen, so he wrote in pencil'.

The sentence contains a cause and effect result.

How about this one with 'because', 'Because he couldn't find his pen, he wrote in pencil'. or 'He wrote in pencil because he couldn't find his pen'. 'Because' here introduces a 'reason'.

My question is, is there somehow a cause and effect result too?

Thanks in advance

The concepts of 'result', 'outcome', 'cause', 'effect', 'reason', and 'purpose' can get very fuzzy, and it's sometimes difficult to separate them out in a way that is crystal clear because of this overlap in the meanings of these words. He couldn't find his pen, so he wrote in pencil. Because he couldn't find his pen, he wrote in pencil.

  • In all of these he couldn't find his pen can be seen as a reason and he wrote in pencil as a result or an outcome.
