question mark

I am wondering if a question mark is appropriate for the following sentence: "Did you know that physical fitness training in the Marine Corps has one purpose: to prepare Marines physically to withstand the rigors of combat." Should it end with a question mark, or is a period appropriate?

thanks!

Hi, stlouisfan, and welcome to the forums. I think, if I were writing your sentence, I'd probably change the colon to a dash and use the question mark. "

Hi, stlouisfan, and welcome to the forums.

I think, if I were writing your sentence, I'd probably change the colon to a dash and use the question mark. But what I'd really do is put tthe question mark after the word "purpose" and then change the second part to "It's to prepare..."

Hi,
I agree with GG, although I'd put a comma rather than a dash.

Thanks very much to both of you. I decided to go with two separate sentences. Thanks again!
