Question in Article

Hi,

We define someone's job in articles like "Joe is a teacher". My question is why can't we use "Linda is a homemaker" instead of "Linda is homemaker". Could anyone of you reply to this question?

Thanks,

We not only can say 'Linda is a homemaker' - we have to say it. It's wrong without 'a'.

Linda is a homemaker. That is a good sentence. The article "a" is required.
