Question -have for UK

Have you any money?

is that question okay for British English? American?
When can I put HAVE to the first place in interrogatives? (I mean not perfect tenses)

Top answer

It is more British than American, but is fine in both dialects. You can use this form, I believe, any time that 'have' means 'possess'.

Hi,

The sentence is ok in British English. Here ok means 'possess'.

Better to say 'Do you have any money?'

Thanks.

Don't you have any money?-- unmarked
Have you no money?-- rather marked ,formal, perhaps dated. Note that it would more likely occur with emphasis: 'Have you no money at all?"
