Question: for vs to.

Hi teachers,

Which is the correct option?

a) Give one synonym or explanation for the underlined word(s).

b) Give one synonym or explanation to the underlined word(s).

I guess is option 'a', but I'm not so sure.

Thanks in advance

Exactly. "for" is the preposition mostly used in cases where the idea is that of "replacement", which is what a synonym is used for.
