question as to "done eating dinner"

Hello,

I don't know if I can ask the following question in here, because it is not confusion about some vocabulary or idioms.

If I want to ask my friend if she is done eating her lunch, how to put it properly?
I think of some phrases, but I am not sure which are okay.

- Are you done (eating)?
- Are you finished?
- Have you finished?
- Do you finish?

Top answer

" can sound a bit impatient or demanding, although tone of voice and context can eliminate that. " which is not rude at all. " is the best of the lot.

The only one that is completely wrong is "Do you finish?"

"Are you done?" can sound a bit impatient or demanding, although tone of voice and context can eliminate that. For example, if you've stood up to throw your trash away and you ask this as you nod at her paper plate, the real meaning is "Can I take that to the trash for you?" which is not rude at all.

The same with "Are you
