How does school affect your health?
The question of how school affects your health is a pretty complex issue. It is related with personal habits, the requirements as well as the curriculum itself besides many-many other things.
First of all, let me speak about the Hungarian education system. In Europe, it is said to be the most difficult. Although I have not experienced other countries’ customs in this respect, I do agree with this statement, because Hungarian students are overburdened. They get the most homework what is more they have a large amount of lessons a week. However, in other countries like Finland education system is continuously improving and becoming renewed.
Some words about Finnish education system, there are no traditional subjects, but subjects that teach students how to solve complex problems in order to prepare them to the real work of life. They want to make school an entertaining experience where they can share and improve their ideas and learn essential, but important skills instead of cramming all the time and overburdening themselves.
So, there is a big difference and as you can suppose being overburdened is not the only issue that is caused by Hungarian education. Children often get frustrated as a result develop some kind of diseases or other health or emotional problems.
They cannot sleep enough and don’t really have time to actually take care of themselves. If they do sports or other activities it is virtually impossible for them to calm and slow down a bit and enjoy their lives.
Finally, my conviction is that bad habits can also be caused by this outdated education system since there are so many teens that smoke, drink alcohol or even take drugs, just to mention some serious cases. Unfortunately, these kind of habits can cause other health problems as well. And in my opinion, it might also be the fault of this absolutely not proper system that hasn’t been adjusted to this modern society at all.
Purely, it has to be changed, because it won’t work in the long run as children cannot lead a well-balanced life besides fulfilling their duties in school. And not to mention that the world is not going to stop changing. You have to adjust to it or otherwise you will fail.
