Question about verb "to be" in Past simple tense

Hello everyone!
Can I say: "They are explored Mars in Utah".
I mean, If I want to say in past simple tense, should I write verb "are" in this occur? I know, we should added "ed" when we use Past simple in this case, but should I add "are" or another verbs (is, am, are)?
Kind regards.

Danilwhy you doin't use be in the present simple?
Then it wouldn't be "simple". The simple forms don't use be. The continuous forms use be and -ing on the verb.

Present (simple): They explore.
Present continuous: They are exploring.

Past (simple): They explored.

Mr CJ, thank you very much! I have known this, but I am confused again.

What is the difference between: "They explore."

AND

She is an author.
California is in America.
Windows are made of glass.

We use present simple in this 3 sentences. But, why? Because this is true or fact?

The main verb is "explore" in "They explore". It's an action verb. It tells what action they do.
The main verb is "be" in "She is an author". It's not an action verb. It tells who she is.

Other than that, I don't understand your problem. I'll check on this tomorrow.

Action verbs don't use with the continuous tenses? Only in the present tenses?
Kind regards.
