Question about the verb 'nod'

Hi teachers,

Could yoy answer me a couple of questions please?

Baxter's chief is nooding his head.

a) Could this be an explanation to the previous sentence? If not, could you tell me a suitable one?

Baxter's chief is moving his head up and dow.

b) Is there an opposite verb for 'nod'?
