Question about the present perfect tense

We were born in India, but we have lived in the United Kingdom for three years.

The second clause is in the present perfect tense. I don't get the meaning. I understand that they lived there, but are they still living in the United Kingdom?

Top answer

It is indeterminate. It could mean either they are still living there, or at one time lived there.

A native speaker would interpret the meaning:

They were born in India.
Three years ago, they moved to the UK.
They are living in the UK right now.
