Question about the correct tense.

Hello!
In the sentence "The average man has has five showers a week, with 20 % having a shower just once a week." it is very clear that the present continuous must be used but I cannot quite understand why. Doesn't "once a week" show that this action happens regularly?
Thank you!

It is not present continuous tense. There is no "be" form which is required.

It is a present participle, the non-finite verb in the clause that modifies "twenty percent."

Another example:

Having his weekly shower on Sunday, by Friday he smelled pretty raunchy.
