Question about Simple Present and it´s progressive aspect

Hi, I have a problem and hope you can help me.
Usually, an adverb like always is a marker for Simple Present, due to the idea that Simple Present reflects some repetitive actions or other regularities. How come I can say something like:
She is always smiling.
He is always drinking beer.
It is raining every day.

Why do I not have to use the Simple Present in such cases? Where is the difference. I really appreciate your help, thank you very much

Top answer

The reason why we say She is always smiling. He is always drinking beer. It is raining every day.

  • The reason why we say She is always smiling.
  • He is always drinking beer.
  • It is raining every day.
  • is that these actions have become Habits.
  • She is always smiling = She is in the habit of smiling Although it would be also corrcet if we say " She always smiles " but " She is always smiling is better"

Those I have to teach asked me about this phenomenon, and I cannot really answer that. One of these students even phoned her sister to ask her, and then told me that one simply cannot say: She i
