Question about 'shots'

Hi Teachers,

According to this sentence, 'There was a shot … two, three, four, five shots … and Alex did not move again.'

I can ask this question, 'How many times Alex was shot?' (By the way, Alex was shot by the soldiers.)

But I don't know which verb to use after soldiers. Could you tell me?

How many shots did the soldiers _______?

Thanks in advance

Top answer

Alex was shot at least once, maybe five times. Some of the other shots could have missed him. How many shots did the soldiers shoot?

Hi,

I was just answering your original request for a suitable word.

'Shots/shoot' in the same sentence is not good style in my view, because of the repetition.

'That's why I suggested 'shots/fire'.
