Question about sentences

Dear all,

I have seen the sentence "I would've gone to the wedding, but my son got sick" in a grammar book. But I feel that sentence is not grammatical and should be corrected as "If my son hadn't got sick, I would've gone to the wedding" or "I would've gone to the wedding if my son hadn't got sick". I would like to get your opinion on this.
