Question about sentences

Dear all,

The other day I saw a magic show. The magician takes a blue ball. He covers the ball with a cloth. Then he slowly removes the cloth. Surprisingly, the colour of the balls turns to red colour. While removing the cloth slowly the magician says:

"The colour of the ball is being red now."

I would like to know why "being" is used here.

Thank you.

It seems unlikely that a native speaker would say that. There might have been a reason to do with the rest of his act, but I doubt it. Either he is a non-native speaker who made a mistake, he was trying to be funny, or you heard him wrong and he said "going" or "turning".
