Question about sentences

Dear all,

Please tell me which of the following sentences is correct.

1) He doesn't have a car.

2) He hasn't had a car.

Those are both correct English. Of course, they mean different things. (2) would be more usual with more information, e.g. "He hasn't had a car until now".
