Question about keys

Ok this is something very confusing.

Say there are ten keys on a keychain.

A person wants to know if he needs to pick it up. Does he say "Do I need to pick it up?" or does he say "Do I need to pick them up" I understand that ten keys are pural, it is correct by grammar to say "Pick them up", but is it too formal to say that? Will people think you're some good for nothing educated guy that has no place here?

I'm trying to sound stupid, so saying "it" is correct right?

Hi,

Just say 'Do I need to pick them up?'

If you want to sound earthy, say 'Do I need to pick the ****ing things up?'

If you say "it", people will think you are referring to the keychain.
If you say "them", people will think you are referring to the keys.

It doesn't matter which you use. Both communicate the idea in a normal way.

It has nothing to do with being formal or being stupid.
