Nona The BritThere is only one way to spell Europe in the English language, wherever you are.
But Oxford dictionary says it like "Jurope" but Encarta says it like "Urope".

Why?

You mean 'pronounce' not spell.

'Spelling' - the sequence of letters used to write a word. So, for Europe, the spelling is E, U, R, O, P, E.

Pronounciation - how you say a word.

I think Encarta and Oxford use different systems of pronunciation: the j in Oxford means the y sound in Encarta.

There are some slight differences in the pronunciation of the vowel sound in the first syllable: some people rhyme it with "core", and some with "cure".
