Question about direct speech

Is this grammatically correct? Are we allowed to have a quote without saying 'X said'?

Thanks!

English 1b3 Are we allowed to have a quote without saying 'X said'? Yes. It is especially common when reporting dialog in works of fiction, where "he said" after every line becomes very tedious for the reader.
