Question about "and"

I read a sentence in a text. "Unpacking goods and stacking things was a regular job"
Isn't it supposed to use plural verb for A and B as the subject? Hence, " unpacking goods and stacking things were regular jobs", right?

Thanks for answering my question.

No, because no matter how many things you did, it still was one job.

Not needingly as in supposed to, but it's possible though.
