Question about adverb clauses

While reading though a web-page about adverb clauses, I noticed that they said to use a comma after a subordinating conjunction that begins a sentence, e.g., when. But then I read this: When an adverb clause begins the sentence use a comma to separate the two clauses. And I noticed they did not use a comma after the 'when' clause. Why did they not use a comma after this clause? Is it because you aren't supposed to separate the subject from the verb? Could someone please give me an explanation.

Thanks.

There would be no separation of subject from verb if there were a comma after ' sentence '-- the main verb ' use ' is in imperative form and the subject is an understood ' you '. I would certainly have put a comma after ' sentence ', but I surmise that some style guides permit its omission if the fronted subordinate clause is short and no confusion results.
