Question about a synonym. Chapter 1

Hi teachers,

Could 'progressing' be a good synonym for 'improving' in the following sentence?

You will see that your writing is improving.

Thanks in advance

Top answer

I would say: You will see that your writing is getting better. "Progressing" gives me a feeling of forward or onward movement toward a destination (not necessarily a good destination, either). John

Hi John,

Thank you for your reply. 'Progress' is the third option in the thesaurus. That's why I've asked.

By the way I have already ordered one of the thesaurus you mentioned me, the American one, though in MacBook Pro there's one for free, New Oxford American Dictionary, which is really good too.

Best,

I use a MacBook Pro as well and I bought an app that links the Oxford Dictionary of the English Language to the Mac dictionary too! (although 9 times out of 10 it's exactly the same as the Oxford American).

Take care - is it a long weekend in Spain too?

Hi John,

Anything that can help me with this kind of things in the app store please do tell me.

Yes, it is a long weekened too. But I'll be working at home, in front of my computer.
