Question about a noun.

"This is why I am appealing to you, my readers. No one can ignore the fact that times have grown uncertain."

the sentence above is from "Dear abby".
My question is about "Times" in the second line.

[U, pl.] a period of history connected with particular events or experiences in people's lives:

"Time" is defined as above in OALD7.
at the beginning of the definition, It shows [U,pl]. I think that means "time" can be used as an uncountable form or a plural form , and the example sentences in the dictionary prove it.

if so, "times" in "Dear abby" can be replaced with "time"?
if it is possible, what's the differences between them?
I need your advice. I'll waiting for your answers.

Hi Icadia I would definitely not use the singular form in your sentence. key=83192&dict=CALD I think I'd be be most likely to accept "time" rather than "times" when it is preceded by a possessive adjective. Thus, I might use "time" rather than "times" in the following sentence (one of the Cambridge examples): - He is widely regarded as one of the best writers of our time.

The above definition suggests that, as different events occur, and as people have different experience, these can be considered as different 'times'.

As a general comment, I would say that the word 'times' i
