Hi Teachers,Could you tell me if 'several' is a synonym to 'a few' or it is more than 'a few'.Thank in advance

There is no absolute comparison. They are about the same.

The Bible says (1 Peter 3:20, King James Version):

".... wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved...."

But few people consider 'few' as 8.

Not exactly. 'a few' is more restrictive; it often implies 'less than desired' or 'less than expected'. 'several' is more neutral, let's say.

That's probably why we say 'only a few', but rarely, if ever, say 'only several'.

Several people showed up for the lecture. The speaker is reporting neutrally, I think.

A few people showed up for the lecture. The speaker may be disappointed.

Only a few people showed up for the lecture. The speaker seems more clearly disappointed.

The two are very similar, however, and in many contexts, it doesn't matter which you use. They mean about the same.
