1- the registration for this course has diminished to the point where we must consider eliminating it from the curriculum : this course has seen a decline/drop in registration (joining, starting, new people signing up) and they must consider eliminating (getting rid off, take it away so no one can register again for it, to remove it) from the curriculum (the timetable for school/college, subjects studied in a school, college, etc:the school curriculum)

2-she sought to save her son: she tried to/attempted to save her son. Sought: past simple and past participle of http://dictionary.cambridge.org/results.asp?searchword=seek. In this case i would suggest Sought also means....wanted to

A draftee: a person who has been ordered by law to join the armed forces. abolished: to end an activity or custom officially- They have stopped this process. and replaced it by a volunteer - a person who does something, especially helping other people, willingly and without being forced or paid to do it. army - a military force that has the training and equipment to fight on land. So the draft has been stopped and has been replaced by people who do not need to be paid.
