Question

I just finished asking a question a second ago. ANd I say to the teacher:

Sorry, that isn't a very smart question. Or should I say:

Sorry, that wasn't a very smart question.

Are both okay to use even though the question was asked a second ago?

Should it be present or past tense?

Thanks.

'That isn't...' would be understood, but 'that wasn't...' would be better, even though it's in the immediate past.
