Question

Hi,

Suppose we want to emphasize that a person is being influenced by something else, something evil, can we ask a question like this: Is that you speaking or is it/that the gang?

Are there other ways to ask that question?

Top answer

That way is fine, but it does not necessarily mean evil.

Oh thanks! One other thing: Must 'that' always be followed by 'that' for the sake of consistency? Like: Is that you speaking or is that the gang? Or, can it also be: Is that you or is it the gang?

Either is OK, or just 'Is that you speaking or the gang?'
