Question

Dear Professor,
I would like to know whether the articles are used correctly or not in the following questions:

What is the difference between deep and surface structure?
What is the difference between grammatical and lexical meaning"

Should I use "the" before "deep, surface, grammatical and lexical"?
Should I use a plural "S" with "structure and meaning?
Can I leave the questions without chage?

Thanks in advance

Hi. Borrowing yrh phrase "grammatical and lexical meaning" from the original poster's sentence. I would like to ask you whether you would put a singular verb or the pluaral verb for these.

Grammatical and lexical meaning is/are (takes or take?) ...

Its grammatical and lexica meaning is/are (takes or take?) ...

Hi,

The subject in "grammatical and lexical meaning" is still the singular word 'meaning'. It's like speaking of the 'red and blue car'.

If there are two meanings, then say "grammatical and lexical meanings".

Best wishes, Clive
