0 In my opinion, the split infinitive thing is a prescribed rule by grammar purists and does not describe the normal usage of English. It describes Latin of all things. "Not to be" and "to not be" have different meanings and we use them differently in different situations. Just try inserting a word like 'always' into those kind of sentences and the difference is as clear as day and night. Insert
