they took the lead = they began winning the game.
at the Riverside = Riverside is the name of the place where they were playing football.
after 24 minutes through Robbie Keene = after 24 minutes of play, Robbie Keene scored the first goal.
only for Yakubu to net twice for Boro= but Yakubu (playing on the opposing side (Middlesborough?) then scored two goals (by kicking the ball into the net)
to give his side the lead = thus giving his team the advantage (the score is now Spurs 1, Boro 2)
