Q5: Choosing the appropriate verb forms

Hi there teachers!

= Tom ______ (a. is working, b. works) with his friends Mark and Tim. They have a small computer company.

The site which I've taken that (incomplete) sentence from says that the correct answer is: 'works' (present simple), but It seems to me that saying "Tom is working..." would be correct, too. What's your opinion on this, please?

Thank you. .. Emotion: smile

is working is not wrong, but it carries a slight suggestion that this is only a temporary situation. This does not fit well with sentence #2, which sounds like a more long-term arrangement.
