Hello teachers,

Would you please tell me whether or not there is a difference between 'rumour' and 'hearsay'?

= It's only a hearsay.
= It's only a rumour.

Do they both have the same meaning?

Thank you.

I would say they are pretty much the same meaning-wise, though they usually can't be used in the same contexts.'hearsay' is uncountable so lose the a.
