Q17: choosing the appropriate verb form

Hello,

I've just finished doing an exercise. The exercise was about filling the blanks with the 'simple' or 'continuous' form of the present tense of the verb given in the brackets. And I was thinking If you could check it for me.

Here is the exercise:

1) Don't make a noise; the child is sleeping now. (sl?ep)
2) It rains a lot in July. It isn't raining now. (rain)
3) Our publisher generally speaks French but today he is speaking English. (speak)
4) My wife and I are going to the cinema every Saturday. (go)
5) His mother is cooking some food in the kitchen at present. (cook)
6) He is crying because he's hungry now. (cry)
7) She is reading at the moment. (read)
8) The workmen are repairing the road near our house. (repair)
9) The boys are swimming in the river. (swim)
10) The clouds are moving across the sky. (move)
11) My brother arrives tomorrow. (arrive)
12) We go to the cinema tonight. (go)
13) What's the matter with her? She is sitting in the chair and crying. (sit, cry)
14) My dog barks a lot, but he isn't barking at the moment. (bark)
15) They come to Sydney next week. (come)
16) A notice at the end of the raod warns people not to go any further. (warn)
17) Are you doing anything tomorrow afternoon? (do)
18) The director is seeing the applicants this morning. (see)
19) Fortune favours the brave. (favour)
20) When is the train to Newcastle leaving? (leave)

Thank you all.

Thank you for your corrections, Aspara Gus, but I've learnt that we can use present simple as well for things that are planned or scheduled to happen in (near) future. So, I'd like to know why it wouldn't be appropriate to say 'we go' in #12, and 'they come' in #15, please.

Like AG, I'd change #4.

Either form is natural in #11, 15, 18 and 20, in my opinion.

TomJ'simple' or 'continuous'
Number 4 should be changed.

I'd accept either form in 9, 11, 12, 15, and 18.

It's got "is" earlier in the sentence, not "does". I assume that was not put there by the student.

If the blank was only for the last word, then it must be 'leaving'.
