Q1- Are these expressions common ,natural and useful ?

The reason I ask is I'm not accustomed to them because I almost haven't read and heard before.

#1- He chickened out of swimming across the river.
#2- He bowed out of the competition.
#3- You can’t cop out of raising your children.
