Puzzling uncountable noun/verb situation

The moisture and acid content of whole and low-fat milk WAS/WERE 10% and 20% and 50% and 80%, respectively.

Ok...WAS or WERE?

CONTENT is uncountable noun in this case. But the way the sentence reads makes me want to use WERE (otherwise, it makes no sense)...

What's the correct answer here?

Thanks.
