Putative should

I think this doesn't regard modals and their past and present uses, but rather the putative should:

I am taking a book with me in case I should get bored.

1) Is the past tense version still OK with 'should'?

I took a book with me in case I should get bored.

Thanks

English is flexible in these matters. Your sentence is fine. If you don't like it, you could also say: I took a book with me in case I got bored.
