Put VS Sprinkle

Hi

Would you say that both put and sprinkle are equally natural here and carry the same meaning?

Your food is ready; put/sprinkle some black pepper on it before you eat.

Thanks,

Tom

They are both grammatically correct and could mean the same. I don't find them very natural. I'd be more likely to say "You may want to add some black pepper (to it)".
