I am American and work with a co-worker from India. We work in the computer consulting business. Sometimes he needs me to place a file on a server which he does not have the ability to access. So, in his e-mails he will write something like, "Please keep this file on the server for me." This sounds wrong to me. I would say, "Please put (or place) this file on the server for me." However, when I look up keep (on dictionary.com), one of the definitions is "...to hold in a given place; store..." So, it seems that this confirms his use. Am I wrong, and his use of the word is correct? If not, and he is incorrect, how do I explain it?
