Do you agree with the given explanation of ‘put out’ according to the sentence below?



She ‘put out’ her hand and stopped him.



Put out: If you put out a hand, an arm, or a foot, you move it to the front of your body.

Yes. Well, using your definition it would be considered putting out my hand when I adjust my tie because I have to move my hand to the front of my body to adjust my tie. But putting out my hand requires a bit more than that!
