put on or wear?

What is the difference between the verbs "put on" and "wear" ?

Can we say "pu on your underwear before you leave the hosue"?

Is it possible that "put on" is for accessories such as hats, jackets, gloves...only where as wear could be for everything....

hmmmmm...or are they are exactly the same when talkinga about clothes?

One difference i know is in other uses of the word such as saying " I am wearing a nice perfume" not i am "putting on a nice perfume"?

"To put on " describes the action.

"To wear" is the result of "putting on".

But in your example, it all comes back to the fact that you must have your underwear on when you leave your (?) house.
