Put on

Hello everyone,

Is the verb "put on" correctly used in the following sentence?

- I accidentally put crosses on your answers.

Here in the above sentence, when someone's answers are correct, but at the time of correcting/marking their paper your mind is absent or busy. Therefore, you accidentally put crosses on the answers (They get crosses instead of ticks.)

Regards,

JA
