put in bind

hi everybody!

i encountered the phrase "to put s.o. in bind". i have a guess but actually i´m not quite sure what it means.

is it bind in the meaning of mandatory, like something is the duty of someone, meaning i put him into duty so to speak,

or bind more literally as cuffing or keeping him from doing something?

or maybe something entirely different?
