Put eggs?

Are birds ever said to put eggs instead of laying them?

Thanks

I never read or hear that. It sounds odd.

I searched the OED entry for the verb "put" with "egg" and got 19 hits, none of which give any indication that a bird can or ever could put an egg. Where did you see that?

The only hens I know of who put eggs are Hispanic.

poner un huevo, literally 'to put an egg', is the Spanish expression for 'to lay an egg'.
