I have sentence: "He puts my ear to the ground."

"He puts my ear to the ground."

It's an odd usage. Normally, one puts one's own ear to the ground. The figurative use derives from the idea of a person actually kneeling down and putting his ear to (against) the ground. It's rather comical to consider a person grabbing another person's earand pulling it to the ground.
