Put down

Hello...

How about the “put down” in the below?
Can we replace the underlined with “put down that camera”?

- What's the first picture you ever took?
- My dad. He gave me a camera right before he left for the Gulf War. It was better than what my family could afford, but, uh, still wasn't a very good one. And then he didn't come home. (INHALES DEEPLY) And I just (CHUCKLING) I never put that camera down.
