Put a period for a quoted clause content

Hi, do we need to put a period at the end of the quoted content?

The sentence "What he has been doing is studying" has no grammatical error, as far as I can see.

The first rule of style -- which is what governs must punctuation issues like this -- is to consider what makes what you've written as clear as possible for the reader. The way you have written this is as clear as it can be. I would write it exactly as you have it (except I would use the word "question" where you have the word "sentence").

Thank you. Why did you want to change the word into (to?) "question" when the part looks to be a clause and not a question, although what seems to be implicit is a question in nature?
