Push back, defer

I was not mature enough to enter the first grade when I was 6. Would it be appropriate to say:

My starting of school was pushed back a year.

or

My starting of school was deferred by one year. (My start of school was deferred by one year.)?

Do these sentences sound natural?

Thank you.

Neither of these sounds idiomatic.

The more idiomatic version has something more like

I started
