Purpose of the trip

I am inviting my mother-in-law visiting my family here in Canada, can you tell me how to describe the purpose of the trip? How about "private visit and sightseeing?" Thanks.

Hi,

I'd be inclined to just say 'a personal family visit', unless the government sites that deal with this use other kinds of wording.

Considering the duration of her visit will be at least 4 months, I'd be inclined to say something like "a personal family visit including sigthseeing." Becasuse I kind of think a personal family visit might just last for a few days or a couple of weeks. Do you think so? Or you still think that is enough without the mention of sigthtseeing. Thanks.

Hi,

I'd just go with whatever you think is the most accurate. My advice is to worry less about what they want you to say and to think more about what she will actually be doing, ie why is she really coming?

If she's going to do a lot of sightseeing, then say 'sightseeing'. Otherwise, don't.

You can't really go wrong by telling the simple truth of the matter.
